Winter Camping

Well, Its that time of year again. This makes year 25 for our annual "Why are we doing this again?" winter camping trip.
For the past 25 years or so myself, my B.I.L. and a small group of friends have packed our cold weather gear into backpacks and sleds and marched off into the snowy abyss. We spend 3 nights at a spot in the woods that we scout the previous November. It is typically about 1.5-2 miles in the woods. We set up camp, firepit, tents, sleeping bags, etc. and enjoy a weekend without watches, computers, telephones, wives, etc.
If you are interested in reading stories and seeing some pictures of our adventures, check out my buddies site http://www.truckaa.com
I am the one known as "Murray".
Most people think we are nuts. Sometimes I agree. But it is a good group of guys and I look forward to this trip every year.

Sounds like fun!

I have never winter camped like that. Been on the edge of both sides, but never in the dead of winter.

Blue tarp under the tent. Then I put a reflective space blanket on the floor of the tent, a closed cell foam pad, inflatable pad (Thermarest), then a -20 bag. Toasty!

When my boys were in scouts we used to do "Klondikes" - that winter camping with sleds and tents - primitive. That was enough for me.

My ancestors didn't invent houses and clothes and electricity and stuff for nothing you know. They clawed up out of the caves and woods so I wouldn't have to do all that. I wouldn't want to let them down.

I did that when I was a kid. The coldest I ever had to endure was -3*.
When you're a kid, everything is fun.

We still have the snow piles around the place if you want to camp out on those.

Motel is close by.

Different strokes, hope you continue to have fun.
