Question for the 1911 experts and afficianados...
What do I have to do to stop this?
Just started at the range yesterday, and only on the first round from the magazine. Happened 4 times, started on the 4th magazine I loaded. Shooting Blazer Brass, 230gr. FMJ ball nose, not a fan, but shooting up leftovers from the ammo scare a couple years ago. Finished that box, and started on a box of Winchester SXS 230gr. FMJ training loads, shaped like hollow points, and no more sticking on the first round being loaded. Is this a non-issue, or do I need a modification of some sort?

Chip
Might just be the ammo. I had the same issue many many years ago with 22LR in blazer. That 22 shot everything I fed it but blazer |

Thinking about trying a Wolff spring. Their website says 16# is stock... will an 18.5# hurt me, or help me?

Is this only happening when you close the slide on the first round in a magazine? If so are you closing the action by pushing the slide release or slingshoting the slide?

Isn't that "normally" indicated with a stove pipe?

WTF is what Tom really meant to say. I think it's the overall length of the round, coupled with being a Blazer round Feed ramp modification might be necessary in order to use your favorite round, but shorter hollowpoints might load flawlessly.
I wouldn't expect this from such a fine weapon persoanlly, but who/what do I know BOB

Not a stovepipe, assuming FTL is failure to load, that's it.
Described in first post. Upon doing research, could be a number of things.... A. Thumb loading, laziness, using the slide stop to release, rather than pulling the slide B. According to someone who knows, The extractor tension is either too tight or there is not enough gap between the breach face and inner claw. Kimber clearance on 45s tends to be .069-.070. Suggested to cut them to .075-.078". Wilson Combat per their build sheet inspection is .083". Original prints is .088

My 4" Springfield will not load either Rem or Win hollow points. And I am not laying down any more money to find a brand that it will load, so only ball feeds mine.
Probably if I had a smith close enough to me that could properly care for a 1911 feed ramp, I would try that route to see if it helped the feed.

If you are the original owner Kimber would most likely fix it and pay the shipping both ways.

Using the proper loading technique, it should feed empty cases.
