Long Riders..check in.

On the upcoming journey to Color-a-doe. how many miles average do you plan on making a day. Also, who will be the long distance champ?

Just curious...

Gordito and I have been planning on around 500 miles per day.

Coming back from KC last year I managed 900 miles in one day... one very long day.

What I found is that it is hard to tell how you will be on any given day. I was exhausted one day after only 254 miles and had to stop for the night. This poses a problem if you are preplanning motel stops along the way.

I think the safest plan is to ride as far as you can and stop... rather than pushing for a destination that is beyond ones endurance in order to make a motel reservation.

Per MS Streets & Trips, my 1-way ride is 1447.8. Divide that roughly by 2 for the daily trek. My planned layover is Greenville, TX.

See ya' around 7 PM Saturday, barring the Universe further conspiring against me.

I'm playing it by ear but basically 1250 miles for me:

Thursday 575 miles - Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City

Friday 425 miles - Kansas City to Burlington, CO

Saturday 200 miles to Royal Gorge, then 50 miles to Salida

--------------------------------------------------------
I'm taking the north route back home through NE, IA, and IL
