I've run a lot of guys that want to know what build I've got in my motor... It's stock with a stage 1.

different builders different philosophies, the guy who built my bike swore by amsoil, I know Dave @ JD uses dino.....my bike ran great didn't burn oil, no one I know has had a problem with a JD build, who really knows?
I really don't know of anyone who has properly seated the rings having problems with either type of break in oil, but wtf do I know.

Well, in that case, no further break in on my part was required anyway! Cool beans...

BUT... If you rebuild, I would learn more about the break-in process. Just sayin'

Seriously? I broke in many a mopar motor, but we are talking apples and oranges, automotive break in is primarily for babbit bearings and cam bearing, bushings. V twins have none of them, roller and needle bearings none which break in. The rings are seated within several heat cycles and 30 minutes or run time, if a few strokes of a hone stone can deglaze a cylinder and give it a new sealing surface what do ya think the rings are doing 1000- 5000 times a minute? Bottom line, many different opinions and folks that will swear by their technique. I'll run it through several heat cycles, run it normal for 100 miles, then kick its ass.

I use a method like Stupidglide.
I use Delo 400 15/40 oil for break in, mainly because I always build in the winter, warm weather I'd use 20/50 Valvoline. 3 heat cycles just long enough to feel the fins on the cylinders getting uncomfortably warm Couple miles of warm up out to my break in road(I don't let the engine idle to warm up, this just gives the rings a chance to glaze the cylinders as you have no ring loading at idle) 10 or so full throttle blasts in 3rd gear from 2500-4000 rpm couple miles of cool down riding easy in 3rd or 4th gear 10 more full throttle blasts finish up a total of 25 miles since start up change oil and filter and check compression put another couple hundred on it with normal full throttle blasts onto the freeway and launching from stoplights. I avoid prolonged hard runs that create too much heat but otherwise I don't worry about babying the engine. Change oil again this time to synthetic. Built 6 TCs and Evo sportsters in the last 2 years and every one had comp. right where it was calc'd and the difference between cylinders was no more than a couple psi. All go 3-5k between oil changes with no oil loss and all the TCs were 95s that put down at least 100/100 with Andrews 37 cams.

I put in 15W-40 DELO for the first 4,000 miles. Tried to keep it under 3,000 RPM like the RTFM said to. I think it got broke in.

I buy it new. I ride it like I always ride it, no special break in other than take it easy the first 50 miles. I change the oil every 5,000 miles. I leave it BONE STOCK... and I smoke Big Tom every time.

Yup...the more I read about failed/problem builds, the more steadfast I am to stay Stock.
