Sweet Potato Pie

I took my new bride to lunch yesterday, and they were serving home made sweet potato pie. My grandmother used to make it, way back when, and I had a memory trip eating my slice. Jan had never tried it before, but gave it a big thumbs up.

Since Grandma's generation left, almost no one makes it.

I guess since it doesn't come in a box that you just add water to, it is too complicated.

Tastes more pumpkin pie like than pumpkin pie.

I think the name turns many off.

As a connoisseur of sweet potatoes, sweet potato pie is "killer". And, Tom's right, does taste significantly like pumpkin pie.

Another 'uncommon' pie but one that's outstanding when done well is Shoo Fly Pie. A guy where I teach skiing always brings in a Shoo Fly Pie at least once during the season. He does a good'un.
