Check engine light
Fellow doofs. As you know, I have a 2004 Roadking Custom FLHRSI. Today, for the first time, the check engine light has come on. It goes off on start up then after riding for about a minute it comes on. My question is: how do I check the codes. I have the service manual but it doesn't say anything about reading check engine codes. Do I have to take it to the dealer? I really don't want to. It's still under extended warranty but I don't trust they won't do the repair (if any) correctly or say it's something major they can make more $$$$$ on.

Okay. I ran the diags (Thanks VAFATBOY!). It gave me a P1353 code on the ECM/ICM test. What the hell does it mean?

Okay. I found it.
P1353 Front Cylinder No Combustion EFI I don't get it. It runs fine! No lack of power, etc. I guess I'm off to the Stealer.

If it doesn't come back on, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like a misfire. Might need new plugs.

Thanks Gray. I've been messing around the front cylinder alot wiring the stereo from the new fairing to the battery. I may have loosened it. I'll check tonight and see if, after I reset the code, it stays off. If not, new plugs!
It's kinda funny. The OL says I work on the bike almost more than I ride it! LOL. I tell her it's have the fun and putting on upgrades is a treat!!! Wait til she sees the new chrome inner primary cover I ordered. Plus I'm taking the fairing off again to paint the inner matte black.

let me how that turns out...having a similar problem...spoke to my bud who is an ex HD wrench...says on later model EFI...there is a bulletin out that the first injector may need a modification...btw are you hearing any pinging...one of the signs is when yer in 5th gear and hit the throttle to accelerate you'll hear the pinging...

Check to make sure your plug wires are firmly attached to the spark plug tips. I remove the plug wires from the plugs to clean the rocker box covers and left the rear one not completely clipped on. It would misfire, but not very often.

I'll echo thrasher's suggestion. I had the same problem, particularly with hard acceleration up hills. After a while the light would turn off. I was playing around one afternoon and found that the plug wires were not completely seated on the coil contacts. After correcting that, I have not had a problem with the engin light coming on.

Bingo! Right on the money Thrasher. I checked the plug wire and it was just sitting on the plug. I must have bumped it while working on the bike over the weekend. Plugged it back on, reset the code, and got the "none" on the final test! I'm such a Doof!
