New tire...Avon vs. Dunlop E3's?
Comparable?
I'm now leaning toward the Dunlops....American-made...... |

I love my E3's. Ask Gray, he will tell you. Each to their own, 8-Ball is an Avon man. He rang my doorbell the other day. Had a nice shade of nail polish he wanted to sell me. Looked good on him, but was not my color.

But seriously, folks. Yes, I've run them on my Road King for about 12K miles and think I can get a few thousand more out of them. They're of a softer compound than the regular Dunlops with different tread and profile...and, as you said Dave,..made in America.

I do not know about that softer compound Gray. They are designed to be a high mileage touring tire. I am getting good mileage from mine, better than with the D402's.

I understand. They do seem to corner better and are very stable at speed.

How about an update on the new tires. I need to replace my rear tire on my RK Custom and the jury is still out on what to go with.

i've done avons, and now have the metz. the jury is still out on wear, but as far as cornering traction i would say that their very close. i wouldn't hesatate to get another set of either.

I've not tried the E3's, but I have tried the Metz and am currently running the Avons. The rear Avon got 3k more miles than the Metz. I think the two were equivalent in terms of handling and ride comfort. I run the 150 in the rear and the Metz had a much lower load rating so I switched to the Avon. No reason to change... love the Avons.
btw, Bear... Crimson Britches is my favorite shade... |

8, do you recall roughly what you paid? I just got the following from Eastern Performance:
AVON VENOM 130/90H-16 MT90 (Replaces MT90 HB16) - $117 AVON AM42 VENOM 150/80HB-16 - $135 Both include shipping.

That sounds about right on the Avon... I paid local tax and it was just under $150 on the rear. I bought from the local guy, not online.
