Dead battery question?
Question on my 2014 Ultra Limited that I bought back in August. I had to quit riding for 3 months due to surgery starting in October and was hoping to take the bike out for a few hours this afternoon. When I turned the ignition switch on, everything seemed like it was ok, the Infotainment center powered up and I had no reason to think it wouldn't start right up (I had started it up every other week or so in hopes of avoiding this scenario). Then the GPS went dead and the bike wouldn't do anything but click.
I dug my battery tender out and hooked it up to the bike. It's been on it now for about 10 hours and the light is still steady orange (charging). I tried to start the bike and everything looks good except the Infotainment center still doesn't power up and the bike won't turn over. Does this just sound like the battery is completely dead? I realize that the tender can take up to 24 hours to charge a battery but the Infotainment center thing is throwing me. I'm still relatively new to the Rushmore's so this could be normal but I haven't found anything online to answer the question. |

Unplug the fuse for the ignition system and plug it back in ,the bike is on a network and may have lost it's path.

My battery went about like that when I had to replace it. It would take a charge and look good on the tender but it would not take enough to provide amperage for the cold start.

Also, buy a maintenance free when you get the replacement. The stealer I bought my Beemer (Thx, Mega) from put a cheapo in mine. My bike is nice to look at, but 17 screws to remove the side panel?!?

Aren't AGM batteries "maintenance free" ?

Thanks for the advice. I went outside a couple of hours ago and it fired right up so I took it on about an hour ride before traffic got crazy. I'm going to put it back on the tender tonight and hopefully it will fire right back up when we get home from vacation.

Drop the bike off at the dealer as long as you're going out of town.
Have 'em do a load test on the battery and check the charging system, too. Could be something as simple as a loose cable or ground wire.

Billy - Mine would start one time and if left on the tender, would start one time. If not on the tender, it drained to too low in about three days. It stranded me twice when it wouldn't start at the other end of a trip. Get it checked out. In a pinch, Advanced Auto carries a sport battery that gives good service and is a direct fit.

I won't have time to get it to them today but I will when I get back in town. The light was showing solid green this morning on the tender so maybe it is ok but I still want to get it checked out, even more so after reading what Dinero said.

Your battery is less than a year old. I doubt it's dead. These new bikes seem to drain the battery faster when not ridden. Just leave it on the tender while you're gone and when you get home it will be fine. If it's not, it's under warranty, so you get a new one for free.
I don't know what the drain is, but I'm guessing something to do with the infotainment system.

I will not bore with the ground to frame problems that have been resolved here.
Check battery cable security to the battery, then go check the ground to the frame. These bikes shake a lot, stuff gets loose. js
