Loading ramps?

few years back, my sister's boyfriend was loading his bike into the back of his pickup, going up the ramp ......me, well, I had had a few scotch's and was a HUGE standing right next to the tailgate watching him load the bike .................

yep, that's right, just as he got to the top of the ramp, front tire onto the tailgate .... that's when he lost it ......

so, he fell over sideways and he and the bike both came crashing down to the ground ...... I helped soften the landing, since I was between the bike and the ground ..... it hit me on the side and landed on top of me.

Good part is that I was on the left side, so I did not get burned from the hot exhaust .....
I did wind up going to the hospital, since my lower leg was flopping around ..... next day, off to the see the surgeon ... yep, blown out knee and ACL. Took awhile to heal up from that ..... that sucked, trust me .....

That was my cure from any future thoughts about hauling my bike in the back of a pickup .........

I have hauled my bike a few times in a u-haul rental, works GREAT, and CHEAP too.

I have also had the bike towed twice, I have road side assistance, no problems with the folks they send out to get you. They are experience in hauling bikes. One came with a roll back, one came with a trailer, very low ramp.

Exactly why I don't like loading in the back of a truck.

It's like what Dave (JD's) uses.

There's one on Craigs List in Baltimore for $1800

There's also another type down in the Hampton Roads area for $1500

I've done the ramp thingy.. I won't do it again.

Either get a trailer, or an automatic loader. Piece of mind.

The Rampage lifts are nice, but I don't want to leave it in the truck, and I really don't have anywhere to store it.

Stand it on it's side along the wall of the bike barn.

I'll "exercise" it for you on very rare occassion.

Actually, wife wants to drive the truck to Jacksonville, and then the bike to Miami for the Homestead races.

So I read all of this with great interest.

1- Noo way am I ramping the Limited onto a 4x4 2500 dodge, that thing is WAY up there.

2- The bed on said Dodge is shorter than short. It's a Mega Cab, so it's a long bed frame with the mega cab and a little room left over for a bed.

The rear wheel would be entirely on the tailgate. By about 6 inches. NOPE.

So, U haul or maybe I can borrow a trailer at work.
