Been kinda bummed with the fat cat. I have never had a problem with my pipes before. The spot that is turning brown, is near my right leg, when holding bike up. oNly burned my self a few times, and not bad.

Not sure why this is turning brown. I do wear FRC, fire retardent clothes for work, I work with high voltage. Wondering this material is causing it. Kinda doubt, it feels normal, but never know. Will ride it this weekend see,

I've tried acetone, turpentine, and a number of other solvents, some of which only worked a little. I've stayed away from steel wool and anything abrasive.

I tried Easy-Off oven cleaner - spray it on, let it sit for an hour or so and wiped it right off - no more junk on the pipes. Works great! Put a piece of cardboard between the pipes and the engine/transmission to keep the over spray off.

So what you are saying is that you don't like the looks of the plastic WalMart bag (at highway speed) on my muffler?

Colonial Brassy metal polish works great. It took off my wifes boot heel and a melted plastic bag without scratching the pipes. BTW does any one know how to remove oven cleaner overspray from a black powder coated engine ?

Easy off works well on chrome pipes, but I'm afraid it's stained your powder coat. Engine heat will bake it in. Looks like "rattle can hi-temp black" is in your future.

I put a piece of cardboard between the pipes and the engine/frame and spray with Easy Off. Come back an hour later and the stuff wipes right off.

yeah, shoe prints on the pipes can bum you out. I had one on mine for a while... I let some woman put her girl on my bike for a pic, I was watching, but she moved her foot down just a bit and oops... at least she didn't burn herself.
Really hard to be mad at her though, she was a cutie:

If you use steel wool, generously apply windex, and keep them wet....

It will lubricate the chrome so the steel wool don't scratch.

But still take it easy, and don't rub too hard..
