Fred, I don't talk about it much, but since you asked, I will tell you what i carried in Nam. Don't know about Iraq or Afgan.
I carried 3 bandelarios of 7 magizines each. Each mag. I loaded 18 rounds, every 3rd round a tracer. 378 rounds M16 (5.56mm).
Also 2HE frags, 2pop-up flares (1red 1green) 1claymore and the prick25 radio. 1st BN/7th Marines LZ Baldy.

I know that the basic load used to be 6 30 round magazines.......now, that is old school, ground pounder. With the new military being so much more mobile with hummers and such, I would not be too suprised to hear that each had MUCH more ammo.... as to crew served weapons, i have no idea how much used to be standard carry vs. today...... and that was army.....
