Another vote for 440's I'm running the stock length 13" with heavy duty springs. I tried standard springs and it was too soft for and Electra Glide Classic with my fat ass on it. Progressive changed out the springs for FREE! I'd only had the shocks for a couple of weeks when I called them about it. Sent the shocks back, and a new pair with heavy duty springs showed up!

I dont' think they make the 440's anymore, something in the 400 series range though will work. I'm told though that the 944's are the shit! It's your money, spend it how you want!

A few people recommended that I talk to Howard at Motorcycle Metal for shocks. The guy knows his craft, and fully explained everything to my dumb ass, several times. I ended up with what he called a #2 adjustable, which I don't see listed on his website, but he fully explained it to me. They are spec'd as a #2 Adjustable, 13.2-13 336mm/13 1/4", 94mm/3.7" Stroke, Sweep Valve Adjustable, Threaded Body Adjustable Spring Pre-Load. I ordered them two weeks ago, and after parting ways with $795, they were at my door a week later.

Yesterday I finally installed them. It was pretty easy and took about an hour to finish. I read his instructions a few times, talked with Russ, and then read the instructions from Ohlins before I did anything. All I did was set the sag according to his instructions. The first thing I noticed was that the bike sits up a little higher. Next I did a short ride just to get a feel for how much different it would be. I'm pretty impressed so far.

I plan on re-checking sag after 500 miles, and the weather looks good all weekend.

Fancy schmancy shocks

I have Howard's Ohlins #3 shocks. I like them a lot.
And they look way cool next to my fancy shmancy horns...

(More gratuitous imagery)
