I went into work an hour early, 7:00 am (central). A friend of mine was showing up around 7:30ish and told me a plane had hit one of the two World Trade Center buildings. I ask him what kind of plane and he didn't know. Sadly, I watched was to transpire in real time from that point on. The film of the towers on fire, the people leaping to their deaths and the collapse of the both of the towers. The news coverage of both of the tower collapses is burned into my mind. Even now it hurts me to watch it, it makes me sick and furious all over again.

Will never forget that day. We were at work and news traveled thru the shop about the events as they unfolded. There is a TV up in the lunch room. By the time the second plane hit the boss stopped trying to get us back on the line. Damn what a day.
I could never watch any of the documentary's about that day in the following years. I saw it live. Just can't relive the horror.

I was doing tree work at the time, and we were getting our trucks and equipment ready for the day. The boss's mother came running out of the house yelling something about a plane and the wtc, almost in tears. So we stopped what we were doing and turned on the radio.( didn't have a t.v. near.). As the news of the second plane hitting came in, we all just stood there in shock. We stood there for about another two hours until the boss sent us home for the day, and that's when I saw the images for the first time. Still can't get them out of my head.

I was home rehabbing from a knee replacement surgery, when my ( now ex) wife called me on the phone from midtown Manhattan. She asked me if we were under attack, I laughed at such an absurd question, it was then that she told me that a plane hat hit one of the w.t.c. towers. now, I had remembered reading that a bomber had hit the Empire State Building in the early 50's, so I was thinking navigational error. I switched on the television, and sure enough 1 of the Jets had hit the Trade Tower. I verified to my ex that indeed a plane has hit the tower, and as I am describing to her what I'm seeing, I'm watching the second plane take aim at the other tower. I yelled into the phone holy shit here comes another 1. now it's obvious that this is no accident. my ex is working 18 floors up in midtown Manhattan, right across the street from Grand Central Station. I told her to get down to the ground floor but stay away from Grand Central, whoever this is, if they're targeting population centers Grand Central would be a great target. security in her building would not allow anyone to move from their offices to go to any for so she was stuck on the 18th floor for hours. I also had a brother in law working 2 blocks from the World Trade Center and sister in law 20 blocks further north. several hours later my brother in law showed up at my wife's workplace covered head to toe and dust and ash. it's a scary day when you don't know if a third of your family is not going to make out of work alive.

I was on my way into the office...I was supposed to go downtown to a project meeting a little later in the morning.
As I was stopped at a red light, I here Don Imus start to joke around that some moron had run into one of the twin towers in a small airplane...A couple of minutes later he gets told that it was a large passenger plane that ran into the tower. At that point I called my brother...We had NExtel phones so it was more like a walkie talkie...He was working on the roof of an 18 floor building on 42nd St...Where i was headed to later. He saw the aftermath of the first plane and as we were talking he described the second plane hitting the other tower. At that point I told him to get out of the city ASAP. I called my project super and told him to shut down and tell everybody to go home. My brother was lucky enough to be able to get the last train to Westchester before they shut down. Some of my guys had to walk home to Brooklyn and Queens as there was noway to drive in the city at that point. For those of you that know NYC, you know that it takes a lot to shut it down...This was it. I was also impressed by how NY came together and how the rest of the country came to help. The line of fire trucks and emergency equipment that was there from all over to help, was 3 miles long. Living were we are, we knew or knew of quite a few people that perished that day. That day will never be forgotten by me. As a final note...I also remember certain areas of Brooklyn and Queens that have a very high population of muslims, celebrating the attacks. To them and to islam in general I say: **** YOU!

I worked in Washington, DC at the time. My company had all of the regional office employees in town for a conference being held in Old Towne Alexandra, VA. It is maybe 3-5 miles from the Pentagon. I remember driving pass the Pentagon on my way into the meeting thinking what a really beautiful day. I felt really lucky to be living in the DC area surrounded my all this history. 45 minutes later the world as I knew it changed.
When the news broke, the regional people at the conference immediately ordered rental cars delivered to the hotel and started driving cross country to get home. I remember our company president having so much composure while trying to take care of his company and making sure all his employees returned home safely. Those of us that were local hung out at the hotel because all roads into DC had been shut down. You could leave DC but you could not go through the city. Since the only way for me (and most of the locals) to get home was through DC, we were stuck overnight at the conference hotel. Some people tried to get home by going around the outside the beltway then going around back into Maryland, but it took them 4 to 6 hours to just get past the Beltway. Me and my coworkers spent the entire day together watching the TVs in each other's rooms. That night, we all we down to a local bar to watch the President’s address. The next day, I drove the 7 or 8 regional people in my Accord to a lookout spot so they could see the Pentagon. Everything about those days is still surreal.

God bless you. I can't even imagine. Seeing pictures and video was horrible enough.
Just reading those three words brought tears to my eyes.

I was home alone watching Good Morning America. Watch the second plan hit live. Knowing Mike was so close to the pentagon was scary. We live 50 miles south of DC and all schools here were locked down. A day I hope we never see again.

I was home with the engine apart on the race car getting it ready to head to the Keystone Nat'ls when I called a fellow racer at work. He asked if I had heard what was going on. I hadn't. He said to turn the tv on and sit down...
It was unbelievable. We are near an approach to Philly airport and not seeing planes coming in on the clear crisp day was something else. This past Tuesday was a sililar weather day.

I worked that day. I was a waterfront manager for a yacht club that's about 15 miles East of the city. It was clear
We watched the tv for a while and I took a boat to the edge of the mooring field to see the smoke from the towers and witnessed the first collapse. Too far away to get there but close enough to see and eventually smell the kick in the balls that uncle Sam got. The wind soon filled the air with a smell of burnt jet fuel and a stink. Some members called and asked for us to send a boat to pick them up. I refused due the the uscg announcing the harbor was closed. Extra boats in the way is the last thing they needed as 343 heros gave their lives on the job. Later in the day some Government VIPs were picked up by a go fast fed boat. I gave them respirators and paper suits and a few cases of water. They sped off to engage. Later in the day a wave of survivors got off the train. The three men were covered in soot and understandingly shaken. I went to the kitchen and brought them food and beers. I called them a cab and gave one a ride home. I lost some people I knew in the dastardly attack on our country. A bunch of fine humans I know from local fire departments went in and helped with the aftermath. The world changed that day. I have no words to describe the anger I feel towards the scum that did this Act of madness.

In a meeting in Germany. Got back to the U.S. several days late, watching the world change so quickly - thinking ahead but not knowing what to think. TalonChief nailed it.
