Garmin GPS Rant
Enter address for NWR in no where West Virginia.
Not found, ok I get that. Enter city that's 8 miles away. Not found, hard to believe but ok Use my phone for nav. I get 20 miles away from the city I entered and it's on the nearby city listing on the GPS. WTF |

Is it possible that when you entered the city name, that the STATE it was searching within was wrong?
(I have that issue sometimes)

I gave up Garmin for TomTom, after it kept telling me to go from the left lane of the freeway to my exit on the right, coming up in 20 seconds.

I did try zip code. When searching for city as soon as I spelled Davis it have me three suggestions that aren't in WV. Went on and added state and no results found, but it obviously has it it a data base somewhere cause it shows up as a suggested city when within 20 miles. POS

Maybe you need the Garmin GPS for southern states,. A southern one would tell you to go down dis here road till you come to the red barn, then left to the forked tree, etc.

It's messed up. Where I went is a resort area. You would think the map data base would be up to date.
The refuge manager turned out to be one our company worked with a few years back before he transferred to WV from White River NWR Arkansas. I thought about riding there, but the boss doesn't care for employees rolling up on sites on bikes to meet customers. The refuge manager rolled in on His new to him Deluxe! All GPS's have their quirks.
There is a setting when you search for POI, Cities, etc . The options are "Near me" Near my route, and a couple others I can't remember. If that's wrong the POI closest to you might appear at the bottom of the list

Mine couldn't find Famous Dave's BBQ restaurant in Grand Junction one time.
I told them, maybe they aren't as Famous as they thought they were...

I've learned to script my routes. I use perforated name badge inserts as script media and tape the script to the fuel door.
I still run the GPS. I use it primarily as a moving road map. It tells me when I'm coming up to the next turn in the script. A good secondary use is as a trip computer. Other than that, I got nothin'.......

I've used one of those yellow grease pencils to write highway numbers on the black area below the fuel door.
