I've got to go to a dealer tomorrow to get a new cable. I'll take some pictures of how it's run while I'm there. Maybe wander into the shop to see if they've got the fairing off of anything.

Airplane building. We have bolts that the head can't be held or turned so they have an Allen socket in the threaded end so you can hold them and tighten the nut.

I generally stick a 3/8" allen wrench in the hole to keep the clutch hub from turning. The pressure plate bolts catch on the allen and you can get all the leverage you need with an offset box wrench.

You're having some of the same problems I had on my last bike. I followed Wild 1's suggestion and got a 4" over cable too. I could never get my clutch right again after that. I'll be interested to see if a shorter cable remedies the situation.
