Scary times
Spent the weekend fighting a forest fire threatening to burn the woods and the cabin down. Spotted it Saturday morning while walking the dogs through the trails. Called 911, and Butler VFD came out. Thank they called Oakwood VFD. Then they called Fairfield FD. Then they called Buffalo FD, then Teague FD. Temps are over 100, and it's been dry, so the place is a tinderbox.
So 5 towns are fighting this fire and think they have put it out and leave. They told me to keep an eye on things and call if there is new burn, don't call if flames are in the black burnt area. A couple hours later I'm riding the ATV around and discover a new burn area back by the abandoned well. Huge flames, and moving fast toward the neighbors house back that way. All 5 towns respond again and seem to get it under control, but it keeps flaring back up. At that point they called the US Forestry Service. They brought in a couple of bulldozers aground 2 am. They cleared some breaks around the fire and left the next morning. Later Sunday morning, the fire kicked back up, jumps the break and it starts all over again. Forestry Service comes back with the dozers and clears more land. The place was still smoking last night when we had to leave to come home because we still have jobs. We'll drive down tonight to see what's going on. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Hoping you are completely safe from a bad situation very soon. My husband, my son, and I have all worked as wildland fire fighters and know how terrifying and unpredictable fire can be.

Crap!
They didn't leave a clean up / monitoring crew? The embers can stay deep in the roots for weeks. They can get close to the surface and a slight wind can flare it back up. Any smoke or small flames coming up out of the ground are the next fire, waiting / going, to start. We get dry lightning strikes in the mountains here and they can smolder in the ground for a week or more, and then flare out of control a week or more later. And all we have here are sparse patches of conifer trees, lots of sage and pucker brush. Can't believe how big the fires can get just burning the fields of sage.

Lightening. There was a storm Thursday. Neighbor at the end of the road says his house shook from a really loud boom and his daughter (lives in a trailer behind him) called to ask if he was playing with his explosives.
Probably smoldered for a couple of days before the breeze kicked up Saturday. The pipeline acted as a natural fire break. For now Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Best of luck to you and your neighbors along with a prayer from us. County trying to save money on the cleanup crews? Wrong place to be cutting corners.....
We are with you, 133 fires in the province and 16 in our zone and people still flick butts..... Dirk |

The chance is only going to ramp up the stupid triple digit heat an no rain.
I'm glad your cabin and structures didn't get any damage.

Drive down tonight to check on things. Still lots of smoke. Only s couple places where three were still some flames. Found what was left of this tree still burning. You can see how big it used to be by the size of the hole near the base.
