Is it safe to assume, then, that when I find this Bel-Ray that I can also run it in the Sportster's primary chaincase/transmission?

i got some of the Bel-Ray primary oil from Dennis Kirk...

i run Redline Heavy Shockproof in the trans...i didn't notice any difference from the Amsoil Gear Lube...

I don't know here. Anyone have an analysis of Formula+? It seems pretty thin to me, but that's what HD says to use these days.

I'd check further on that, but it might be OK.
I run it in the tranny/clutch of my dirt bike...

Not sure about belray gear lube in Sporty. Gearlube may be to thick.


This brings up a damn good question, for all the people who say engine oil is not enough for trannys. Sporters and jap bikes, have been doing it for years.


Jap bikes one oil tranny and engine. I feel like I have had an epithany.

I wouldn't do that. Just use it in your twin cam's transmission.

I believe the tranny and engine in the Sportster is a unit construction.

upon further research....

I'll run 20w50 Amsoil in the Sportster. Both holes.

Can't get Bel Ray here... without mail ordering....

Mobil 1 full syn 75w140 for the Softail Trans, unless someone gives me a reason why not real soon... headed to town to buy it.

My little piece of ingnorant thought:

run whatever 20-50 in the sportster engine. then run sportrans fluid
in the other hole. I assume HD still has it. I still have a few qts on the shelf
for the XLCH.

I do run atf in the primary on the Shovel and the obsolete springer.
It is not that expensive and it works.

Don't remember what I put in the softail tranny last time.

Every 5k, I use Amsoil 20W-50 in the engine, 75W-110 Severe Gear in the tranny, and B&M Synthetic Trick Shift in the primary.
Probaby overkill for a little ol' Evo, but the temps stay down and the shifts are smooth....
