While reading this months...

(March) Thunder Press.

Anyone aware of these?

It is in the Motorhead Memo section and this month he talks about some modifications to Sportster rocker "boxes" to help with rocker box noise and also oil control.

The interesting part is the addition of "sleeves / shims(?)" in the rocker box bolt holes that fills up the excess diameter of the bolt holes and reduces the play between the bolt and the rocker shaft.

Thus reducing noise from the rocker boxes of the upper end.

So here is the link to one company that makes them for twin cam engines...

At least 3 people selling them under slightly different names that I'm aware of. Put some in a long time ago. They didn't wipe all the noise out but they did eliminate some of it. Maybe 50%.

Installed them...my bolts didn't show any witness marks indicating the rocker shaft was tapping on them. Made no difference in my case.

Installed them in my top end as well when I rebuilt the motor last year. Made some improvement, but didn't totally eliminate noises.

I install set screws in the supports to lock the shafts, serving the same function.

Yeah, but that required drilling and tapping didn't it.. For $ 15.00 I just pressed them in.
