Have you ever seen a clutch do this?
This is my buddies clutch plate after excessive practicing and competition. It melted to the basket and had to be hammered out from the backside. For reference the ring on the left is a normal friction plate, and is what it should look like. I guess letting your engine cool down once in a while really is important.

More or less stock?
SE clutch performance spring upgrade or something else used to squeeze those plates together? Are the slots in the hub OK and not galled up from the plate teeth?

Great balls!
Is that one of the new "Assist and Slip" clutches or the older style? What fluid was he running? Either way, get a Barnett Kevlar unit in there with a stronger spring and use Formula +.

I knew I would see something like this if I waited and watched long enough. 87K+ on my bike and am just adjusting the clutch cable for the first time. One might think I'm hard on equipment, but I'm really not. I let it all work within it's limits and it treats me well. I am looking forward to doing this task when it comes up.

I use an SE spring, but most who do cone dodging use the stock spring. That's just too much time in the friction zone without resting. It melted and fused with the basket. I don't know what he was using for oil, it really doesn't matter. Nothing will stand up to that kind of heat.

They're not wet clutches anyway. (Splashes don't count)
Besides, w that heat all that would happen is coked oil.

Sorry. Been busy.
Looked dampish to me. I think it was a few months ago, Donnie Peterson in American Iron mentioned it. Plus, don't wet clutches run partially submerged?

Check the basket for wear. The steel plates will eventually wear notches in the basket and these notches will cause the plate to hang up, preventing the spring pressure from reaching the rest of the stack. The result is what you see and smell there.
