Long throttle cables

So I'm 0-2 on ordering the proper length throttle and idle cables for my 95 heritage. The housing is too short to get tension from the carb to the bars and I'm left with about and inch and a half of extra wire. Is there any way to simply extend with some kind of connectors? Either at the grips or the carb?

Found an extended cable guide for the carburetor that should pick up the slack.
