Zumo 550...
I scratched the screen with my fingernail.
Besides fingernail clippers, any advice on removing the scratches?

I'm not sure. The screen is plastic, I don't know what you could use on it to take out the scratch without risking killing the whole unit.
Does it effect the function of it, or is it just ugly looking?

I'd call Garmin. It seems on my 2610 there is a slight texture to the surface. Plastic polish may remove it...dunno. But I'd call the guys who designed it.
Those are nice units. I was playing with one at the dealer last weekend and I liked it. Darn things are expensive, though. I see they have a 660 now in more of a wide screen format. Haven't seen one in person.
