Did you know they changed to a replaceable halogen bulb style from the sealed beam in '06?
H-D didn't even see fit to supersede the sealed beam on the pre-'06 w/ anything in the parts book.
But there is a kit you can buy for like $70 to upgrade the pair to the '06 style.
Pretty easy install, but I'd have preferred it to be my choice...

.....until one burnt out. Now they are 55w H-3 bulbs.

The back of the bulb just had 2 exposed terminals, not a 90 degree rubber elbow?

but it wasn't an H-3 bulb.


I did replace ends on the wires.

That bulb was replaceable with a 90 degree counterclockwise twist...
Check your owners manual to be sure.
Then I'll mock the shit out of you, or apologize, whichever is appropriate.

Put the Trucklite LEDs in. You'll never have to worry about changing them again, and they're only like $90 each.

If we do the math here, and figure that the originals lasted me almost 50k, and it only cost me $70 for the pair of non-sealed beam replacements that I can just replace a bulb in, hoping that I can actually get a new bike before 100k, carry the 1....

That extra $110 buys you far better visibility at night, and makes you far more visible to other traffic.

Course, if'n you wear that creamsickle rainsuit of yours all the time, you'll have no visibility issues.

I haven't ridden with these new ones at night yet (reflector is different), but with my original sealed beams, adjusted the way I had 'em, I had no visibility issues and always wondered what all the fuss was about.
