New Cage

2016 4Runner SR5.
Last one on the lot, while we were working on the horse trade someone else came into the dealership and wanted to buy it, but as the trade was in the works with us...

The FJ Cruiser is history and the RAV4 went also, the boss of me hated the RAV with a passion.

Now comes the fun part of living here.

I have to have the VIN verified by the state trooper office, then I have to get it smog checked to make sure the emissions are correct. Never mind that the under hood emission label says "Meets California Emission standards" no...

Have to take it to a smog inspection station where they inspect and test what is coming out of the tailpipe.

Then to the DMV to pay the fees and get the plates.

Oh yep.

I had an '86 with a 4-banger and a 5-speed. The acceleration was glacial, but it was a great truck.

The free state of Nevada, 80 miles from here in the wilderness, where there is not even a Starbucks or McDonald's...

It does have the same 4.0L vee six engine and 5 speed automatic transmission as the FJ Cruiser, longer frame of course, but sits and feels pretty close to the FJ driving it.
Filled up last night on way home, today at same gas station while picking up supplies, filled up and if my math is correct it got 22 MPG.

Dude...I had an 85 with the 22R 4 cylinder. Loved that thing. I wouldn't call it quick, but I also wouldn't call it glacial. It had better acceleration than the 95 3.0 vze 6 cylinder 4runnner we have now.

My '08 FJ had just shy of 215 thousand miles, front and rear brakes were still from factory, battery also, last couple of years kept it in storage unit during summer.

Was a solid vehicle.

That 22R engine was bulletproof. I had one in my 81 SR5 pick up. Poor truck rotted around the drivetrain. I traded it for a 79 Yahama 750 Special and $400.00.
And, congrats on the new wheels! Looks nice!
