Sturgis 2011

Rooms are booked and planning a different route begins, Rapid City Budget Host during the week/weekend and Deadwood's Cedar Inn for Monday to scavenge all the deals as they knock down in Sturgis.
Gives a guy something to think about this winter.....................

Cheers,
Dirk

Would you stay in Gardiner or right in Yellowstone Park proper? We're usually coming in #212 to make time but this year we get to meander a bit, so got to see Yogi's home....

Great! You'll be more than welcome.

Well, I'm a camper and a poor person besides, so I usually look for a camping place outside the park to avoid the crowds. The hotels in Yellowstone and many of them in Gardiner are out of my price range in the summer; someone else who hotels it regularly would be a better source of information than I am. The further you get from the tourist areas like Yellowstone, Jackson, and Cody, the cheaper the hotels are.

Hey John,
All those places are great but you need to check out Vanocker and Spearfish Canyon for sure also. Need to go early, I mean 6:30 am to avoid the crowds and idiots.

Cheers,
Dirk

A small window of opportunity just opened up and I may be attending this year. I'm looking at staying in Custer, I really like it there.

As for things to see, I second the Badlands, I took a group of teens from church there and one proclaimed it the best place on earth. In all of his worldly knowledge.

The place with the Wooly Mammoths is cool also.

Oh, and the Bavarian Inn restaurant in Hill City. If you go, PM me and I'll reveal the protocol to make it the best experience. Hope you like steak.

Reptile Gardens is a great place for folks interested in herpetology. I could spend a week in there, but my family generally drags me out after a few hours. There is a great Gabon viper there and an amazing collection of very rare slitheries as well.

They have a good deal on a filet mignon at the Dark Horse,
it's behind the Cattleman's in the alley upstairs. The Our place cafe on East Hwy 16 has good breakfast, a mixture of Betty Boop and Grateful Dead decor, kind of cool. I like Shoot Roosters on the north side of Hill City on 385 for breakfast as well.
