Jiffy stand surprise!

Well with the butt puckering bike lurching, after dismounting, at stops for fuel or the night.


I put a close eye on the top of the jiffy stand bolt, while letting the bike settle on it and by golly if I didn't see the tab / bolt move more than just some "play" in the tolerances in fit of the tab slot on the frame.


This morning I had it on the center lift, checked it and it was really loose.

So just for shits and giggles I guess I'll wander over to the local NAPA store today to see if they have a grade 8 bolt ( yeah I know that's over kill) to ease my mind in bolt strength.

Beside it's been slopping around the past few miles and the bolt may have weakened from the loose fitting and stress placed upon it...


Oh! and all of you who may want to check their own, make sure you only do this on a lift or lift stand!
It wouldn't be a pretty thing to check it and it comes apart and the bike lays over on you.

Should have just flipped it over like a BMX so you could really get to it.

Well that didn't pan out, getting a grade 8 at NAPA.

Will have to check at fasten all 75 mi North when I go for some engine oil and Formula plus.

Had only two qt of V twin on the shelf and one qt of formula plus and a few oz left.


Will have to be ready by next Wednesday for my appointment to get the tank slapper, they caused by adjusting the fall away for no good reason, fixed(?).

Oh no, it's still there, just more special to do.


This repair will probably involve getting the fender tip LED's phase matched up with the stator and timing the front and rear wheels...

Not as crucial...I just dropped DPH's heat shields off to the powder coater...hoping the finish turns out better than the stock Vance and Hines black BS was...

Bought (found some to buy) grade 8, 5/16" X 3/4" bolts today.

The RTFM does not mention any use of lock tight when installing it.


Well, I have a surprise for it tomorrow!


Also maybe some shim stock may find it's way into the gap between the square end of the jiffy stand shaft and the square hole of the locating tab (the thingy that goes into the slot when extending the jiffy stand) to help eliminate any slop between the two when bolted together.
