I installed the SE Hybrid kit, works like a charm along with the Andrews 26.

This would be the way to go if Mark can get them turned around in a decent amount of time. You can pick up a set of pistons for about $120(SE flat top cast), gasket set-$75(Cometic w/MLS head gasket), then decide on cams and camplate upgrade and you've got it all for under 1k with a new set of lifters thrown in.

Probably should figure in $3-400 for some minor head porting to really make it come together since you have an 04 and the heads don't flow very well.

Any cam that is the old style works with the se kit. Either way you cant go wrong. As far as my research has led me it was never about the chains, it was the pressure exerted on the shoes by the springs on a hot motor after shutdown. With the hyd kit once the motor stops the pressure bleeds off releaving the shoe pressure.

Re-read what I wrote. Yes you can run any of the cams that work in the stock cam plate but your camplate requires pressing bearings and uses the original silent chain on the cams, the Andrews parts list uses all the parts from an 06 and later Dyna so all you have to do for set up is set the end play on the cams with shims, much quicker simpler set up. If you have the tools the bearings are no big deal but for most do it yourself types the Dyna based kit is easier, cheaper, and just as reliable.

Time will tell, but if I remember correctly only the inner chain gets re used, the outter chain is replaced with the new style. Whats werd is how it was hit or miss with the old style, mine had no wear at 60k, some blew apart in less than 20.

I believe riding type has a large part to play in this, long distance bikes haven't shown many problems, short ride bikes eat tensioners like crazy. Short hop, heat everything up, park and the engines heat soaks the cam chest, tensioners get just a little soft and fuse to the pores in the chain surface, restart cold and a minute amount is ripped off the tensioner. Long distance bikes only stop/cold start a fraction the number of times short hop bikes do so this effect is minimal. The new set up helps by relieving pressure on the tensioners on shut down, and the roller chains have a much smaller friction surface against the tensioner pads.
