New Orleans or Nashville?
If one was to put their feet up for a week, which town? Bear in mind Auto and I are music lovers first and foremost, with country being at the top of the list.... Ambience and culture are important but good live music and excellent food is #1.
We have been to neither so looking for input from all you semi locals and seasoned travellers of the areas... Dirk |

It's like asking "what do you like best, jazz or country?"
For me New Orleans is a musical Disneyland.

If you do Nashville, take a day or two and visit the Smokey Mountain National Park. That's if you're in to nature/hiking.

Both are rich in live music. New Orleans much more favors the Jazz genre. New Orleans Wins hands down on the food front in my opinion. Great Cajun food as well as many other options.
Nashville obviously for country music and you will also find other options particularly of the rock variety. I think they have food in Nashville too I'm sure the food is just fine, but not as memorable or region specific.

I really enjoy New Orleans and have my favorite places. But I live in (or pretty near) Nashville and love it. I couldn't live in New Orleans. It's not the cleanest place. I think you'd have a great time in either.

I have to agree with Ed.
Both are great cities but I prefer Nashville.

Been to both more than once and while there are some great ribs and pulled pork in Nashville, IMHO, when it comes to great food, Nawlins wins! From Commanders Palace where the likes of Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Legasse (who has Emeril's and Nola's there) earned there stripes to Brennan's, the originator of Bananas Foster, to waiting in line at Mother's for a PoBoy, to Cafe du Monde for chicory coffee and beignets and everything in between, it's a food paradise. If you go to jazz clubs be sure to visit Preservation Hall. It's an experience that can only be had in New Orleans.

Do not go to New Orleans in the summer it's way to fooking hot and humid. I worked a construction job there in July of '77 it was miserable. It's a cool place to visit just not in the hot months.

Not a whole lot worse than Nashville in the summer. Been to both and they're both hot and sticky in the summer.
