Whats the Verdict on PreWorkout Drinks???
What is the concensus? One of the kids on my crew gave me a bunch of stuff, I think he called it T1 or something. I think it kept me going for a extra 15 min on my usual time but now I'm a little wound up still, I'll try it a little earlier tomorrow...
Just psychological? or of actual use in a fitness program? The stuff ain't cheap so.... Hope I sleep tonight, Dirk |

Probably loads of caffeine. Definitely research it. If your body can handle it, go for it. Some of them made me feel funky. I just stuck to water.

Saw a study a while back that showed caffeine or nicotine to be good performance enhancers because they constrict the small capillaries in the skin allowing more blood supply to the muscles. Downside is you ain't gonna sleep tonight....

Nah, if you really want an illegal drug that pipes into sheer physicality find a few mushrooms. I used to could run a five minute mile on those things- that is I could have if I hadn't felt compelled to stop and carry on an existential conversation with a lilac bush along the way.

Try Accelerade. It uses protein instead of caffeine. Seemed to work well for me.

Water before, little bit of gatorade cut 50/50 with water after. Caffeine only if you're running a race or some sort of competition.

I don't use them, too many additives and crap in my opinion. Your diet is the best way to regulate energy stores.
I drink water before, during, and after. If my sweat rate is high I will supplement with gatorate cut 50/50 with water to avoid a sugar rush. On long runs, 4+ hours I will also supplement with V-8 juice to get some easy calories and sodium.

vera funna n00dle man DAK, i've been seen drinking Black Cherry soda during a workout. Also gatorade Muscle Milk has a sh_t load of potassium, good fer muscle twitch or else water will be fine

Gotta agree with Swede, most of these drinks are loaded with caffeine. How well they work depends on how much caffeine they have and how much you can tolerate.
If you drink a boatload of coffee anyway, they will probably have little to no effect. If you don't, you may feel like you're on meth (not that I know how that feels). Personally, if I need a boost before a workout I drink a cup of coffee. I also drink water with a teaspoon of creatine and water throughout the workout. Post workout is usually a protein shake. Water. And nothing I get more chuckles out of than being on a climb above about 10,000' and seeing the meltdowns of people who charge their system with energy drinks/gels/etc. Carbs is king.
