All because I have had *galley duty forced onto me and looking up how to slow cooker dis or dat.

Dried (raw) red kidney beans contain some kind of toxin that can harm you.

Never heard of this, some say they have to be brought to a boil for at least ten minutes or even in some advice givers 30 minutes.

Beans are your enemy. That's why you never find them in real chili.

Take castor beans as an example:

Ricin is a poison found naturally in castor beans. If castor beans are chewed and swallowed, the released ricin can cause injury. Ricin can be made from the waste material left over from processing castor beans. It can be in the form of a powder, a mist, or a pellet, or it can be dissolved in water or weak acid.

And don't get me started on kidney beans.

Soak em overnight and discard the water, just like grandma used to. There's also a quick method, but I don't remember it, although I'm positive it's printed on the back of the bag.
