Mikey, they are a little larger in diameter and slightly deeper only at the center of the cone on the back side. I cut out a recess into the styrofoam of my ear pocket to accept the extra depth.

Fits my Nolan, just takes a few seconds with a box cutter to trim the foam around the speaker pockets.

Done! I have pictures!
This is the product I ordered. Grab the cushioned part by the edges and twist back and forth till it breaks the internal mount loose. The mount that breaks is just the center post. The back of the speaker is oddly shaped. In order to get a usable surface for mounting, I clipped the post and bridge, then filed the plastic smooth. I used some glue-backed Velcro. The new units are about 3mm larger in diameter and about the same increase in depth.... But the cone shape fits the Shoei's dished cutout better than the flat-bottom Sena speakers so the net change in height is about nil in this helmet. The larger diameter is also not an issue because the outer edge is wafer-thin and the Shoei dished area opens up pretty well. The wire used in the Sena units is much more robust than what's used in the Koss. Just clip the wire right at the Sena speakers and solder straight to the mounts on the Koss speakers. The Shoei makes it easy with its removable liner. The best part is the sound. Now, I haven't had a ride test yet but the difference in sound quality is outstanding right away. These little speakers have something the Senas never had...bass! This is definitely a great upgrade and I'll find out soon how well they work out when riding.

I'm interested in the intercom volume increase, if any. I have to use the ear buds because I can't hear

Dan, I'm anxious to try it as well. With the Sena speakers I found them to be very... focused. It was as if the sound was only a pinpoint in the very center of the thing and changing its angle or position in the lid made a HUGE difference in perceived volume.
I ended up with the Sena speakers toward the front of the cupped area such that they were angled rearward slightly. This made a really big difference for me. To test it, put on the helmet (while NOT riding) and play music through the Sena...then move the helmet around while noting the change in volume depending on position. That's what lead me to relocate the Sena speakers and it was much improved. The same testing with the Koss speakers revealed them to be much less 'directed'. I think this will be much much better than the Senas.

this is very interesting stuff .....
Ricky THANKS for posting up the procedure and the pictures ! I'm intereseted in what you think after taking a ride ..... I too find the SENA speakers to be very 'focused' .... I can't angle them towards the rear as they are close enough to my ear that any protruding edge of the speaker beyond the pocket generates a hotspot ..... I'm more inclinded to do this now, THANKS EVERYONE

Nice write up, Ricky.
I really like the sound from the Koss speakers. Huge improvement. Used our units this weekend. Learned allot of how they sound and operate. Very pleased with them.

I will gladly buy the speakers from Amazon and provide adult beverages and witty dialog if someone would like to help upgrade mine at ES.
