Ardbeg 10
Wow. For a $40 bottle of Scotch, this is magnificent. It's peaty and smoky, without the peppery bite of a Macallan. Reasonably complex, with a little bite at the finish.
Pairs well with a MoW SE. Sent from my iPad, probably while I'm pooping.

Hmmm...may have to get a bottle of that and try it out. I really like the peat and smoke flavors in Laphroaig, along with the salt & "medicine" flavor. Sounds like Ardbeg has those as well.

Russ...you were right!!! I bought a bottle of 10 yr old this afternoon, and sampled it just now. I added just a spoonful of water to help wake up the aroma. It smells heavily of peat and smoke, along with a fruity aroma like pears or apples. It has less of the "iodine" taste than Laphroaig. Very complex, intense flavors here along with the taste of salt from the sea. It has a nice finish. My wife, who generally doesn't care for single-malts, said she liked the Ardbeg!
