remove the side saddle bags before washing - DUH!

I bought a pair of leather heat shields to take some of the heat off my inner thighs. Can't put them on until the temp gets over 60 degrees because of the velcro.

Looking at the instructions, it says 2006 has to remove the seat. So I was looking at the manual's instructions, and step one was to remove the left luggage bag.

Two simple little thumb screws, the sucker popped off. From now on I remove both sides everytime I wash the bike. I could see most of the back tire and the top of the pipes. So simple even a doof could do it.

Are you sure they weren't finger screws?
I read about your timer cover screw incident.

there called dzus fastener... used to be used on small aircraft a lot I think... also used to use them ourselves to hold the body on sprint cars. Need to figure out how they are sized and order some online, my bags are a tight fit and if I'm not careful I spring them... and they are like $6 apiece at my dealer

On the '07 the left bag has to be opened to access the seat strap screw (try saying that fast). A couple guys I spoke to suggest removing the strap all together since no-one uses it. But I would advise against trying to remove the bag or the seat strap while moving. trust me, bad things happen

Bofinn,
Sorry I didn't mention the removal of the saddle bag thing when washing the bike. Thought everyone knew. I probably wash my bagger more than anyone here. I can't stand dirty wide white walls.

I finally got last years dirt off the bike. My buddy washed it after I let him use it last weekend...

That annoying piece of crap was the first thing to come off my bike when I rolled it into the garage

You removed the roll over / bucking strap?

What will your passengers hold on to in case of a rollover or the bike starts bucking?

Got those nifty saddlebag guards on there; they should be useful.
