I put the bike to work today. Commuted to work in fog and rain. Upper 30s when I left the house, upper 40s on the way home.
First and foremost, the stock tires are spooky on the wet farm roads. I aired them up to 30/32 (from the recommended 21/28), but knobbies just aren't rain tires. On regular pavement they weren't horrible, but they don't hold a candle to the Angel GTs on the K16 or the ME880s on Vader. I put a taller windshield on, which along with the big tank and fairing, does an exceptional job at keeping the weather off of me. It's still loud at highway speeds, but there's just not much to be done about that. Still, I wasn't drenched when I got to work. Through muck, fog, rain, and general schmutz, The Goat just ate it up. A V-Strom or Versys probably would have been a better commuter, but the simplicity of this thing along with the ability to go bashing about off-road make this ugly thing a winner.

Yea, I'm way past time to do some woods riding. Last time I remember, I crashed and the exhaust pipe coming up and out the left side landed and burned the holy Sh**t out of my bare upper inner left leg. I couldn't pick it up off me. Friends laughed. Damned good thing I was intoxicated. I do remember melting big chunks of ice on the wound. Also funny is that their is no scar. And they say to never do that. Right!
ps We beached a boat that day too, ROFLMAO BOB

I sat on it and my feet can still be flat footed on the ground. A good winter bike is a must have in these parts.

Well that didn't take long......Removing the smog stuff, rejetting the carb, added a high-flow air filter. Tomorrow I'll do a valve check and advance the cams a bit. See if I can't get this sucker up to 40 horsepower.

Haters.
Had a mellifluous time today doing the valve adjustment. Of course I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I advanced the exhaust cam just a smidge, 'cause I hear that that makes for a nice midrange bump. Amazing that for a bike with 700 miles on it, 3 of the 4 valves were at the tight end of the spec, and one was too tight. The folks at Kowalski must still be pissed about Nagasaki. Sent from my iPad, probably while I'm pooping.
