Actually, I put the caliper on the axle, centered it in the adjustment holes, and used a piece of PVC as a spacer to snug it all up. Then I used the caliper to locate the position of the tab and clamped it there. I had a guy at the local rice-racer shop who does custom exhausts TIG it on. I suppose I could have tried to MIG it myself, but I didn't want to end up with a swingarm that was twice as heavy on one side.

It looks like this, although this is not my swingarm.
So, you welded it on somebody elses swingarm? Brilliant. Perhaps OCC is hiring.

Latest update--a speedometer is gonna be a costly option. No wheel-driven unit exits that I can modify to fit on a chain swingarm--could do it if I swapped in a wider belt swingarm. The only other option seems to be going digital. I really wanted to keep the Lowrider dash.

my 72 sporty had a front wheel driven speedo? can you make that work? that was with the drum brake setup

Nope. Left spacer is only .518 and the right is pretty much just a washer. I've looked at all the available drives and I can't make any of them work on the front or rear.
