Tire repair and inflator in the middle of no where

A question for the people who have been there. Tire repair for people without
inner tubes... What is the best kit available for repair and inflation?

Yeah, I got that too. I know guys who fix motorcycle tires and they really hate that stuff when they take the tire off. I knew a guy who had a tire kit and carried compressed air in a small container. I never found out where he got it though. He said it would fill a tire and the kit was good enough for a short trip to a shop... Does anyone make the whole thing for sale?

I have this one. I originally read about it on BMW forum and it got a lot of praise because of the style of the plugs. I have never had to use it.

I researched this topic for quite some time before I decided on the Stop & Go kit.

The first thing I discovered about the CO2 cartridges is that to fill a rear tire, you'd need like 10 cylinders. Most of the kits have like 3. Then it is a one time deal and you'd have to replace cylinders... just seemed like a no go to me.

I also looked at the electric pumps. I just don't trust them and they are much bigger then the Stop & Go kit. Bottom line, there is nothing to go wrong with the Stop & Go kit and I can fix a tire in the middle of nowhere with it.

This kit has a fitting that fits in the spark plug hole and allows the motor to fill the tire. I'll always have my motor with me.

I've also had the opportunity to use it. Had a buddy go flat while out riding. I used the snake looking things with the supplied glue. Fixed it in nothing uh... flat. It was easy, fast, and it packs nice and flat (self contained) in the saddlebag.

I would only caution that you be real careful with a plug and a hot head. I have seen real ugly results--real ugly. But heck, they make helicoils to fix 'em.

I have never had good luck with rope seals in other tires either.

Talk to me man...

I always use anti-seize on the plugs... how long should one wait before pulling a plug?

That damned rope/snake/string seal worked great.... the trick was to make sure the glue was wet upon insertion. If it starts to skin over before you insert it... you're screwed.

The guy I fixed it for never had the tire patched correctly... I know, dumbass, but he has been running the hell out of it and, as of this posting, is not dead.

I have a patch and plug kit along with the air compressor Paironines is linking. It works fantastic, and plugs into your battery tender connection. Don't mess with C02 or spark plug adapters. This little air compressor is very small, takes up very little room in your saddle bag, and is around 30-35 bucks.

Most of the issues I have seen have been guys who overtightened a plug into a hot aluminum head. If you don't do that, you'll be fine. Does the manual call for anti-seize? I don't remember. Just bear in mind that it does decrease the amount you should torque any fastener to unless it is specifically directed--so does loctite; for that matter any sort of lube on a thread.

I have never had to plug a bike tire. I have tried those rope seals on various implement tires and just never had them seal right. Might be technique on my part. Everyone says not to run tires after you plug them. I figure my hide is worth the hundred bucks...as long as the tire has 8 or 9K on it. I would not run a plug close to a sidewall for very long regardless.

I like the looks of this but don't like the price. Portable air not taking up space would be awesome though.....

I plugged a tire in Toas NM with the rope plug one year>

It made the trip to Pville no problems and since it was a Sunday options were rather slim so I was glad to have it>

Those CO2 units are for low pressure tires. I think that you nedd 8 or 9 of those units just to get 34lbs in your tire. Just a word to the wise.
