for my friend and co-worker, Marilyn Mathis, who lost her son, Jeremy in a tragic accident Sunday. Marilyn was the Texas Committee Chairperson for the AT&T Run for the Troops for the last three years. I came to know and love her while working with her on the committee. My heart is just breaking for her.

2 S.A. men killed after motorcycles collide

Two San Antonio men were killed Sunday when the motorcycles they were traveling on crashed head-on along a winding section of FM 471.

Jeremy Brigman and Salvador Saldivar, both 27, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:25 p.m. collision near Rio Medina.

Department of Public Safety Trooper David Pinedo said Brigman, who was traveling southbound on a 2006 Cushman, failed to negotiate a curve and drifted into the lane of oncoming traffic where it hit the northbound 2007 Vespa driven by Saldivar. He said both men were wearing helmets.

The accident remains under investigation.

"It's a shock to everybody because Jeremy was an experienced driver," said Erica Sifuentes, 25, a longtime friend of Brigman's, whom she said worked at a motorcycle shop.

"He had fun (on his motorcycle), but wasn't an idiot," she said.

Brigman had one son and was planning to remarry later this year, according to Sifuentes, who said Brigman rode with a group of cyclists and was familiar with the stretch of FM 471.

"We just had a friend who just got in a wreck out there a couple of weeks ago," she said.

Saldivar's family could not be reached Monday.

Though speed was not mentioned as a factor in Pinedo's report, the crash was not entirely unexpected by Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown, he said Monday.

He said reports about riders aboard "ninja-style" motorcycles speeding — and sometimes crashing — have become increasingly frequent along the road, which has several turns rated at 25 mph.

"They come through there trying to do those hairpin turns at high speed," Brown said.
