These trucks are beat on in a way that is hard to fathom, the mud is bottomless, idle time, asked to haul stuff that belongs on a 5 ton flatbed.
Either the fleet rates are astounding for Ford or food for thought on the next truck purchase...

In the oilpatch, I've seen mainly Kenworth and Peterbilt for well logging trucks, Autocar for thumpers, and Ford, Chevy, and Dodge for small and medium sized trucks. Frankly, I think it all boils down to fleet price.

Pickup trucks are okay for the sand, but they're not great,... they're really just too heavy, and their weight is not distributed evenly (front and back). What is best is a light 4WD with wide tires. I used to have a Nissan Pathfinder 4WD with wide BF Goodrich All Terrains,... that little SUV went places in the sand back on Padre Island National Seashore where my truck would surely sink. Even a very light 2WD with wide tires works better than heavy 4WDs.

Ford'sfleet prices are the best, all the makers suck in what they bring vs what they can make. I own gm trucks for the easy of my repairs and the cost of parts.like DJ said go GMor go home.

I put 186K on my '97 Explorer, but I hated the Mazda transmission, the throwout bearing would go long before the clutch. My '02 Avalanche is sneaking up on 150K, but I'm sick of replacing rear brakes every 20K or less and the piston slap is getting really bad. My '87 and '90 F-150s were rust buckets.

Had tons of Fords, loved them. Now I've got a Toyota Tundra. LOVE IT!!! Tough, oh yea. Smooth? Oh yea. I do believe, in my opinion, it's a MUCH better truck than any of my previous Fords.

Never owned a Chebby, and had sooooo much problems with Chrysler products, I wouldn't touch one.

I drive a Chevy 2500HD extended cab long box in the oilpatch here.

No issues whatsoever, and I've gotaround 110k on it (around 175,000km)

Around here, in the mountains, it's either Chevy or Ford, VERY few Dodges in the patch.

I love my Chevrolets... but I don't hate Fords either, I've driven both in my 16 years in the patch, both suit the work well.
