WTH with SD cards?
So, we get a new little digital camera for Christmas. I get us a 64 GB SD card for it, put it in, and Boop takes pretty pictures out in the snow. When we come back in, I pull the card and put it in my reader. Empty.
Hook the camera up to my laptop, internal memory is empty, too. So, I go back out and take more pics (the ones I posted, not as good as Boops) without the card, and it saves them to the internal memory. Go through the quick start guide, which is nearly worthless because, despite being about the size of the NYC Yellow Pages, it's in, like 57 languages with only about 5 pages in each. Covers installing an SD card, though, and, yep, that's hard to screw up. Go to Best Buy with camera and card in tow to make sure the card I exchange this obviously defective one for works, and the little geek behind the counter zips through a few menus and, lo and behold, there's an option for formatting the card. She formats it and all is well. When did that crap happen? Never had to do that before... I felt like a dolt.

And I totally disagree with having to install a manual onto my computer from a CD in order to get instructions.

I can deal with it for a peripheral or something, but for a camera that's going to a freaking theme park or race track or whatever? Just a wee bit shy of useful, SOP or no.

Well.............hopefully you will have read (wherever it's available) before you get to the park as I'm thinking it would be just a weeeeeee bit difficult reading it in the middle of Space Mountain

The manual thing was just a side rant, BTW.
When the hell did SD cards start needing to be formatted? Didn't even know that was an option. Always just dropped them in before.
