well I re-adjusted the slack adjuster on the primary. I moved it up about quarter inch.Its better, but I think that part of the problem is in the chain to the rear sprocket. Since the noise in the front is pretty much gone...now I can hear the noise coming out of the drive chain.

I called the guy whom is local that makes or puts together bikes....he assured me he would get call me back at 7 ...but I was stood up. I tried to call but no answer. So I will adjust it myslef tomorrow. I wish I had a jack stand to get that rear tire up....plus I would like to take off the chain guard (it is an inclosed chain)and inspect my rear sprocket. See if it is worn down too much after 25 years.

Did you take a good look inside that primary. Just adjusting the chain may not be the best thing. If after you adjust the drive chain it doesn't take care of the issue. I would consider going in a little deeper as far as the primary. Don't forget to look at the sprockets and rotor.

I did not take the primary cover off...I did feel around with my fingers to see how sharp or worn the primary gear was....I checked it a few times by starting and moving the bike. I was happily surprised they did not feel worn or with a penlight look worn.

Here is what I was told in Daytona, which had some logic....most dealerships only sell Harley parts...no aftermarket. My bike is 25 years old. Another thing for an 84 first year evo is that there were designs that they did not carryon for the next year let alone following years. Some of the parts are not manufactured any longer. So the only place you can get them is aftermarket. If they take it apart and the part is no longer available they will not get the aftermarket. Like it or not that is the way it is.

Also mechanics that went to school have not been trained on the older bikes. They don't have the knowledge on iron heads, pan heads etc...so I have been told.

Well the contiuation to this story....

There are truely no more INDY guys left in the Eden area....so I dropped it off today to a place called Big Birds on 220 on the way to Martinsville VA....it may be done tomorrow but more then likely on Monday...but at least its getting done....

Here is the other side....which I did not realize till I really read the service manual....chain life was well beyond expentency and same as the sprocket...so I had to do it.... sooner then later
