Well, old age has finally set in--especially in the right knee. Since it hurts too much and has already led to a potentially fatal infection, I decided to get a lift to avoid kneeling and crawling around.

I went with the manual Harbor Freight model. Like most HF stuff, they obviously cut corners on things like hardware, but overall it's very well suited to home use. It's solid as a rock and heavy as hell. Not sure I'd want to use it daily in a production environment, though. I would definitely go w/ air over hydro if I had to pump it up and let it down all day long. For my garage, an extra $200 was not worth it to me.

The stock wheel clamp is crap. I decided to add a chock instead for ease of one-person operation, and I could not find a reasonably priced actual vise. HF was selling these for $29 last week. It's a knock off of the Bike-Pro and is made of pretty heavy gauge steel. I mounted it to be easily removed in case I want to work on the front end.

HF offering

Bike Pro at 4X the cost

As for a frame jack to assist in wheel/tire changes, they have become a bit harder to find as well. A year ago, FleaBay was rife with them, but now they have disappeared for the most part. I guess the chopper fad is really over...., but I digress. Anyhow, after much looking and price comparing, I found that JC Whitney is selling the Black Jack lift for $102 w/ free shipping. No one else I could find would touch that for a total price.

NOW all I gotta' do is go work on the bike...

I have one of these, one of the best investments I have made so far as far as tools go. Works well for maintenance and cleaning. I was gonna go for the cheaper one but they didn't have one in stock, and I liked the aluminum look of this one

I'd like a lift, but will wait for a bigger garage.....

I put mine up on a similar lift last Saturday to do the front motor mount and decided I was going to get a lift table instead.

I have that one. I love it!

The Heritage is awesome on it, but the Broom doesn't fit well on it.

Besides, a table gets things at working height.

I like that jack too, but my FXR doesn't fit on it very well .... the front cross member on the jack hits on the jiffy stand mount on the bike ....

so I got the cheap azz red one ..... but I've done a build with it
