Russ, dj knows... The first thing we do besides checking codes and putting a good manual oil pressure gauge on the main oil gallery, and then drain the oil pan for pieces, is cut the filter open, then send a bottle of the drained oil out for test.

That is pretty much SOP for this place. I like to think of it as people BSin' about bikes while camping, working, painting their house, putting peanut butter on faded fairings, stopping up commodes, almost dying, and then in some cases actually dying. It's life.
