2008 Elecrtra Glide Ultra... electronic throttle issues.

My neighbor's bike has a habit of stopping and going into mode where it'll only run up to 1500 RPM. This happened when it was 100% stock and has now happened with the SE Air cleaner and V&H Throttle Pak along with a fuel pack (I forgot what brand). The bike was much more responsive to the throttle but yesterday it again died on him and it would only run at 1500 RPM.

Who else may have experienced this sort of thing?

Was 08 was the first year of the throttle by wire and the rear cylinder shut down?

The parade mode was available in '07 and the fly by wire ion '08.

Both sound like programming issues or possibly an ECM going south.

My bike did it yesterday. Ignition on off, on off, on off, on start. That will clear it up.

Doesn't the parade mode activate if you twist the throttle against the closed throttle position stop?

I believe papade mode is the throttle stop thing, not sure.

The ignition on off thing is to fix the high idle problem.

Hmmm, not sure if they've even checked the ECM

This may be the case, but try to get the dealer to really do anything is the real problem. Thery want to keep the bike until they can "experience" they problem and get a code reading.

If this is for the High Idle; that's not the problem, 1500 RPM is as high as the engine will turn. He limped home in 2nd gear since since he was only a couple blocks from home. He was hoping the thing would register a code.

...I'm glad my bike doesn't have this! ...or the throttle by wire! Maybe by now they've worked out some of the kinks on the new models.

He has had the problem a few times, and the dealer(s) haven't been real helpful.
When you're cruising along at speed and this happens and there's a car behind you; the bike shutting down like this can be quite concerning!

That is correct, but it will not actually clear the ecm of the problem. There was a recall early on for this. The dealer can clear the ecm and find the real problem, which is one of several issues. It took the dealer about an hour to find the problem on mine, when I first got it.
