Diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease in his early forties, and now 55, he goes in tomorrow June 11, for a re-placement of a Deep Brain Stimulator. He's had two of these devices placed in his brain in recent years, one for each side of the brain. These are electrical probes installed thru holes drilled in the skull while the patient is fully awake and his responses are tested as the thing is positioned. They work sort of like pacemakers for a section of the brain to help reduce the severity of the tremors. The second one they installed never seemed to work as well as the first one, his hand tremors on that side are severe. There is no stopping the progression of this disease, no real treatment, but the DBS can potentially improve quality of life. For a while.Tomorrow they will try to reposition for better effect.
