inoculations
My wife and I got flu and pneumonia shots last week. Jan was laid up for 24hrs afterwards, with flu like symptoms. I usually don't get flu shots, but we plan on traveling and thought they might provide some protection.
My sister says she won't get one. States her neurologist believes they cause Alzheimer's. I know there is a lot of pro/con surrounding annual flu shots. I suppose everyone must decide for themselves.

Seems like every time I have gotten a flu shot , I get the flu.
One year the wife got a pneumonia shot and all that winter she had a case, walking pneumonia. So... We're kinda leery on that whole matter ourselves. Ever notice when you go to see the Dr for something like the ague, it always seems they say, "Oh you have Flu Like Symptoms, Nothing to worry about". People die of the flu! Nothing to worry about?

influenza is a serious viral disease. in 1918 it wiped out millions of people. you do not want to get influenza.
Do not confuse it with the common cold. They have different symptoms, look it up, but the common cold is commonly called "the flu" by non-medical people. The elderly and children are more susceptible than healthy adults. But you guys already know all this. I get a flu shot every year and every year I get the common cold.

Effectiveness is an issue. Every year they try to guess what next winter's strain/s will show up based on what shows up at the end of the season. You can Google the effective rate but it is usually short of 50%. I take one every year and have never gotten sick. I used to get bouts of walking pneumonia but the pneumococcal shot has made that a thing of the past.

Yes, yes, I know the influenza (flu) can be fatal, but when you go to the healer and they just look at you and say you have "Flu like" symptoms you'll be OK, and you came in to get your ingrown toenail taken care of, you just start looking about the healers room looking for the fleam and catch bowl.
But like some different versions for a drug for one issue, like hypertension, because the one type / compounding doesn't work on everyone. Maybe that is why some have "flu like" symptoms (a cold?) after getting the "flu" shot?

My mother's older sister was one of the "millions" in 1918. Also, when I was 11, I suffered through the "Asian Flu" during the 1957 pandemic. We think of 'flu season' as the winter but I came down with it in the middle of summer and was laid out (think bedridden) for well over a week. There were times I thought I'd die and others when I was afraid I wouldn't. It's not news to anyone here that I'm not a kid anymore. I'm getting the shot. I can deal with a couple days of the sniffles if I get them.

We usually get the shot every year. I've had years where I didn't get the shot and didn't get the flu. Some years not so lucky too. Those years I was wishing I had got the shot.

I went to Kaiser and got a drive thru flu shot. As sick as I been in the past couple of years, I'm taking the chance that it will help.. Let ya know if I made a mistake.

I used to love Kaiser, until the day they prescribed me an Rx for antivert, then sold me a generic version of Bonnie for $$$! after waiting in their pharmacy to have the Rx filled for three hours.
Heck I could have went down the street to Longs Drug and gotten a OTC of Bonnie at less hassle.
