If you got all the parts, it should be up and running this weekend.

Keep the cylinders covered if it's going to be sitting that way for a while.

Why not put it back together right away?

Cylinder stud rust is probably from washing it and not riding it and letting it get up to full operating temp immediately after. Sitting overnight or longer lets any water that wicks its way in there sit and form rust.

Mikey, now's a good time to check the side play in the connecting rods. The specs are in your service manual.

Again, Mike, very proud of you!!

The carbon on the pistons is normal. Maybe little more then normal.

I am glad I have a TC, where I don't have to drop the motor to pull the top end.

yeah, I'm gonna .....

A buddy on another forum is gonna send me his cam bearing tools, I have to send the jugs out to be honed, clean up the pistons, waiting for the lifter block alignment tools from George's Garage, I have a couple of little 'side jobs' that I'm working on, it's cold (some days) in the garage .......... but it shouldn't be 'TOO LONG' before she goes back together !!

Please educate me, why do you need to cover the cylinders if it is sitting around ? Currently they are sitting on the floor, no covering ........

WOW, Thanks Dave, I had NO IDEA...... just what you described happens often. I know I wash it alot of times and then just push it into the garage, where it might sit for several days before it comes out again ..... .NO LONGER !!!

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should have 'less' build up after this build, I'll no longer be routing back to the A/C

I am glad I have a TC, where I don't have to drop the motor to pull the top end.

No, but you have cam chain = noise, and cam chain tensioner shoes = wear and MONEY to replace and WORRY about ..... Glad I have an EVO

Well, if you had a real bike, like the FXR, you wouldn't mind

very nice..... I had rust on mine and the mech. said same thing as mega... also if the bike sits outside, even covered up, moisture accumulates and causes that. Mine wasnt as bad as yours. Might have tried to tackle my rebuild in my younger days. Good luck. Sure is nice having all the info from these guys. Good Luck.
