Jeff Gordon and the Championship
I know a lot of people hate Jeff Gordon, but I find this interesting. This is the second year that Jeff Gordon would have won a Championship counting total points for the season. Since he would have a 340 point lead at this point, it would be a lock. I know Nascar changed the system, so it doesn't count, and that is not a problem, but why did they? I have heard the crap about a "Super Bowl" and really don't believe it for a minute. Daytona is, and always has been Nascar's "Super Bowl". The fact that it is the start rather than the finish of the season is irrelevent.
So what is the REAL reason for the chase? It certainly hasn't drawn fans. Nascar has lost fans ever since the first year it was instituted. It certainly isn't a great system. One problem like a flat tire, or an unavoidable wreck in front of you, removes you from an opportunity to win. Nascar removes all advantage of points lead, but instead rewards wins. In theory, the tenth place team can start well in front of the first place team at the start of the chase. Could it merely be a way to preserve the records of Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt? No one will ever forget them. They don't need help. Forget the chase, and the "car of tomorrow". It is supposed to be "Stock car' racing.

i think one of the reasons they did it was what you said...J.G. would be already crowned the Champion...
this way there would still be chances for others into the last race...

NASCAR sucks anymore; too many rules made when ever things don't go the way NASCAR wants it to go.

I thought the new rule was because Kenseth won the Championship by consistantly finishing in the top 5 and not actually winning races...
This year is was Gordon's to lose...and he did.

I do wish it would go back to the old way but with more points given for wins, so it pays to win and not just be consistent. Would have still gone to Gordon or Johnson this year.

I still watch it, and will more then likely continue.
I hate the phact that they all have to be *even* PC crap. Let each team build a car the way they want to, and let the best team win. I hate the phact that Toyota is now a part of NASCAR!
