Oil Catch Can on Direct Injected Engines...

since no fuel passes over the intake valve on a Direct Injected engine, the oil vapor returning to the intake thru the PCV system builds up on the intake valve...
theres a lot of articles on it.
I've been reading about putting a Catch Can between the PVC and intake to catch this oil...
there seems to be different "insides" to various manufacturers cans, and the one I like and ordered, after reading threads on Camaro forums is the one from ApexSpeed...not cheap, @ $190, but I'm goin to try it on my V6 Camaro work car...see how much oil I collect...

I don't know why the MOCO hasn't gone to direct injection. Maybe the heads get too hot?

direct injection helps with higher compression on low octane fuel...my V6 has 11.5:1 and runs 87 octane...

Most probably cost. Cheaper to use a half plastic injector that is not attached to the head.

So this is more of an oil separator?

Sounds like a good idea.

Who would build a vehicle that needs constant owner (improvement?) modifications.

The intake valve build up is really becoming a issue with DI.

I have noticed it doesn't seem what oil the customer uses it still builds up.

The folks with drivability issues because of it tend to use cheap brands of gas.

I have not been able to distinguish differences in build up due quality of fuel used.

Just route the line to empty right on the ground. That's an old Evo trick.

DI on a Harley motor would be problematic for a couple of reasons. You run insanely high fuel pressure (like 2,000psi), so you'd need to seriously reinforce the entire fuel system. That costs money, and Harley probably doesn't want to do that.

FWIW, Dana's Mazda6 has a DI 2.5L 4-banger that makes 184/185 on 87 octane and delivers nearly 40mpg.
