Should you tip the cleaning staff at motels?

I think the responses are too narrow.
Maybe, "Yes, if the service is extraordinary" or something along those lines would yield a more meaningful result without having to wade through the replies which everybody will feel compelled to post to explain their answer.

Oh, consider this my qualifier for my "yes" response.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

But I would say yes if I have a five or smaller bills in pocket.

If the sink or shower / tub drains slow I am kind of hesitant to tip.
Also lights that don't work or aren't plugged back in after cleaning staff have used the outlet for vacuuming. That cuts into their tip.

There was on this trip the TV didn't work.

Hum? Found that the door wall switch controlled that outlet and the lamp and TV had been plugged into the wrong outlets.

BTW, up until last year when they fired Ray and treated us like crap, the forum took pretty good care of the cleaning staff in ES, since they managed to get stuck with some pretty incredible messes that were in no way their responsibility.
Of course, that was tax deductible...

No. I expect a clean room to be included in the expense of renting a place for the night and I'm not so messy myself that anyone needs to go to extraordinary measures to clean up after me. If I stay for several days and need something out of the ordinary from the housecleaning staff (like having my room cleaned early in order to accommodate my schedule) then I'd add a tip, but for ordinary stay the night experiences:

That about sums it up for me. Oh, and BTW, if they have a 10 PM curfew, no tip for you!

What's funny is I always clean my room before I leave in the morning. The only thing to do is replace the towels and make the bed.
