Cold weather Hat

I am bald. When the temperture drops, I need something on my head so that I stay warm. When riding in the cold, I need something that works VERY good. Stocking caps are OK, but they let too much air through at anything below 60* or so. Wind chill is a bitch.

I set out to find something that will keep my head warm and not be so bulky that I wouldn't be able to wear it under my helmet if I wanted to. I found such a thing.

Outdoor research Peruvian Hat made from WindStopper material. Very lightweight, very thin...thinner than my stocking cap I usually wear when it starts getting chilly out. I wore it while riding to Lafayette yesterday, when we left, it was only about 32* outside. It only ever got up to about 45* all day long for me. Travelling at 65 MPH on the highway, my head never even got chilly, much less cold.

For those looking for cold weather stuff, WindStopper provides their material to a bunch of different manufacturers for gloves, pants, shirts, jackets, and so on. <Click Here>

If all their stuff performs as well as the hat that I wore, they look to be a great alternative to a lot of the heavier gear that we carry with us when getting into the cold. A shirt made of this stuff would easily allow you to just throw a sweatshirt over top of it and be incredibly warm while out riding.

I will be trying other items made from their fabric, gloves in particular. The leather, insulated gloves I wore yesterday would keep my hands warm for approximately 10 miles at 45*, after that, my fingers would just ache from the cold for the next 30 miles until the next comfort stop. That by itself is enough to keep me from riding in the cold.

Anyways. give their stuff a try, from what I have seen so far, it works great!

My balaclava is made out of that stuff. It's amazing how well it works given how thin it is.

Ya know they make this stuff for Handtools that you dip the handle into.
Its like a rubberized material that dries to the handle and allows for better grip.
I'm certain they make a Big vat o that and you could just Spunky Dunk yer dome.
You'd be good to go.
I believe it comes in green as well.

The only problem I see with that is being able to remove it. But thanks for the idea.

A little pricey, won't fit under a helmet, but...you'll never suffer a cold dome.

Do they make a cold and bullsh*t protection cover?

I was going to recommend them to my friends.
