As you know I sold the FXR to Big Mike over in Georgia

I told him that one of the shocks were leaking so he decided he wanted to have them rebuilt. I told him about Carver performance up in Minnesota who specializes in rebuilding fox shocks.

They did the job, $145 to completely rebuild both shocks.

I spoke with Mike carver, the owner of the business. He told me that both of the shocks were completely dead. The one that had been leaking oil of course was out of oil, but also had leaked out all of the nitrogen. The other shock while was not leaking oil at all so leaked out all the nitrogen.

So who knows for how long I have been riding that bike on flat shocks, the only thing that was working was the springs on the housing.... O m g

So when you ride like that, I guess they call you a dead ass lol


Must be when you ride that long on flat shocks, the new ride becomes The New normal

The shocks will be back today, I will put them on the bike and go for a ride, maybe I will reneg on the sale after that, when I find out just how well the bike rides and handles

We know I'm a 43, but now I'm certainly a 41 lol

Those shocks are only 21 years old, and only have 59,562 mi on them

I've known people who ride for miles with no air in their bagger shocks and don't mind the ride quality.

If it's center mounted under the seat and large enough, yes. The key here is amount of travel. Moto cross bikes require more shock absorption than virtually any other bike. What is their shock setup? A large mono shock located under the seat. The main reason....travel. Mounting a mono shock under the seat provides the necessary room for substantially increased travel over traditional side mounted shocks. While the travel on traditional HD tour platforms is approx. 2 1/2", the travel on my Cross Country's mono shock is just short of 5" and, like HD shocks, has the ability to add air to adjust for load.

Did I say it rides good. Actually, should have said REALLY GOOD!
